If your website runs on Weebly, you likely already received the notice. Weebly is winding down its services across 67 countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, the UAE, and dozens of others, and the countdown to losing your site is shorter than it feels.
Here’s the timeline, and exactly what to do about it.
The dates that matter
- Already in effect: Weebly stopped allowing new pages to be published.
- September 27, 2026: Your site is unpublished and goes offline.
- December 26, 2026: Your Weebly account access ends completely. After this, you cannot log in to retrieve anything.
Two months sounds like a lot of time until you realize what actually needs to happen in that window: exporting your content, transferring your domain, migrating your email, and rebuilding your site somewhere else, all without losing the search rankings you’ve spent years building.
What you need to do, in order
1. Download your data now. Go to Account Settings, then My Data, then Download My Data. Do this even if you’re not ready to migrate yet. This is your insurance policy.
2. Check your domain lock status. If your domain is registered through Weebly, you’ll need to disable the registrar lock to get your EPP authorization code before you can transfer it elsewhere. One important detail most people miss: this also disables your Whois privacy protection, so you’ll need to re-enable that with your new registrar once the transfer completes.
3. Do not touch your contact information yet. Changing your registrant email, phone number, or name triggers a 60-day lock under ICANN policy. If you need to update any of that, do it after the domain transfer, not before.
4. Plan your new home before you migrate, not during. Jumping platforms without a plan is how businesses end up with broken layouts, missing pages, and a site that ranks worse than the one they left. A proper migration maps every existing URL to its new location before anything goes live, so Google never sees a broken link.
5. If you use Google Workspace through Weebly, handle that separately. Weebly can help transfer Workspace accounts directly to Google, but this needs to happen before your account access ends in December.
